Rasha Wanase
Rasha Wanase, an Egyptian artist born in 1979 in the vibrant city of Alexandria, epitomizes the fusion of ancient heritage and modern innovation in art. A distinguished graduate of Cairo’s Faculty of Fine Arts (2000), specializing in mosaics, she has built a dynamic career focused on acrylic and mixed media, particularly sculptural forms. Her creative journey is deeply influenced by her Mediterranean childhood, where the abundance of seashells along Alexandria's shores ignited her lifelong fascination with these natural treasures. In 2002, Wanase’s artistic path took a pivotal turn when she delved into Egyptology, deepening her connection to ancient Egyptian art and its symbolic language. This exploration inspired innovative works like the 2023 “Shilkas” project, which integrates clay, silk, and ancient symbols to craft sculptural shells that merge historical depth with contemporary aesthetics. Driven by a passion for abstract art rooted in classical forms, Wanase has developed a unique style that bridges historical and modern sensibilities. This exploration led her to pioneer a new art movement she calls Antiqueanism. The movement reflects her commitment to blending abstract expression with classical motifs, forging a fresh narrative that honors the past while embracing the future.

Artistic Evolution

Wanase’s artistic evolution also includes a notable chapter in Dubai, where she directed documentary films from 2006 to 2017. Upon returning to Egypt, she founded Bentwanas, a ceramic art brand that combines carved symbols with clay and pure cotton threads, suspended on natural wood branches to enhance interior spaces with positive energy.
In 2024, she introduced Art RW, a venture dedicated to producing and selling a diverse range of paintings and sculptures for corporate and private collections. Inspired by her global experiences and her new life in Australia, Wanase continues to explore the interplay between history and modernity.
Her mantra, “Artist creates history,” underscores her dedication to portraying the essence of history through artistic expression and her commitment to pioneering Antiqueanism—a movement that harmonizes abstract and classical art forms into a cohesive, forward-thinking vision.
